BIM Coordination
BIM Coordination is the collaborative process of integrating digital models from various project disciplines (architecture, structure, MEP, etc.) into a single, comprehensive 3D model to detect and resolve design conflicts, or «clashes,» before they occur on a physical construction site.
By creating a unified virtual environment, BIM coordination improves communication, reduces errors, saves time and money, and enhances the overall efficiency and quality of a construction project.
>>> Key Steps and Activities <<<
- Model Integration: Various discipline-specific BIM models are combined into one comprehensive 3D model.
- Clash Detection: Specialized software is used to automatically identify any geometric or spatial conflicts between the different models.
- Coordination Meetings: Designated BIM coordination meetings are held where the team reviews clash reports and discusses potential solutions.
- Conflict Resolution: The team assigns responsibility for resolving identified clashes and records commitments for resolution.
- Information Review: Beyond clashes, the process also involves reviewing the information contained within the models for accuracy and completeness.
